During the MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Republic of China Taiwan) and ICDF
(International Cooperation and Development Fund in Taiwan) scholarship orientation on August 12, 11 Palauan Students were given scholarships to attend universities in Taiwan.
Also in attendance at the orientation were Palau National Scholarship Board Chairman Gafaar Uherbelau, Minister of Education Sinton Soalablai, and Ambassador Wallace Chow.
In their remarks, Ambassador Wallace Chow and Minister of Education Sinton Soalablai congratulated the recipients and encouraged them to keep working hard and exploring their future goals in Taiwan’s liberal academic environment and enjoy life in Taiwan.
Due to the good relationship that Palau and Taiwan share, Taiwan’s high quality of life and education, as well as being close to Palau in distance, it has become one of the most chosen destinations for Palauans to pursue their studies.
So far, there have been more than a 100 recipients of the Taiwan scholarship. The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) provides scholarships for Palauan students to pursue their bachelors or higher in various fields such as medicine, education, electronic engineering, agriculture, fisheries, etc.
Despite COVID-19 affecting different parts of the world, Taiwan has been one of the few countries that have successfully curb cases and is considered as a non-high risk area. The students will be leaving on August 21 through China Airlines charter plane.
