July 19, 2017 (Koror, Palau) President Remengesau announces the second national clean up activity to take place on July 29th, 2017.

The announcement calls on all government agencies, including State governments, State and traditional leaders to lead their communities in a national clean-up, to rid communities of trash, possible breeding grounds for mosquito and other potential disease bearing pests. [restrict[

Minister of Health Dr. Emais Roberts reported that Palau is not yet out of the dengue outbreak status.  This month of July, 35 cases have been reported and confirmed.  To be downgraded from an outbreak status, number of cases identified each month must be 10 or lower.

Prevention is the key and this second national clean up is the best way to reduce the outbreak.

Dr. Roberts also reminded that clean up would also remove other potential dangers such as removing possible habitat for rats that carry leptospirosis bacteria. [/restrict[
