On the 26th of November, five new JICA Volunteers arrived in Palau. The five volunteers are, Ms. YAMAGUCHI Yukina assigned to Ngaraard Elementary School, Ms. NIHEI Atsuko assigned to GB Harris Elementary School, both for Primary School Education, Ms. FURUHATA Harumi assigned to PE Department of the Bureau of Curriculum and Instructions, for Physical Education, Ms. TOJIMA Setsuko assigned to Food Service Program, MOE for Nutrition, Mr. TAKAHASHI Yoshiharu assigned to Power Generation Division, PPUC for Power Generation Technology.
They started their activities at their assigned offices from the 9th of December after two weeks of after-arrival program with Palauan Language Training, various orientations, and courtesy visits to Palauan leadership. Their assignment period is 2 years.
The number of JICA volunteers now stands at 30, which is the largest among the 10 JICA operating Pacific countries. Since 1997, the JICA Volunteer program has been constantly contributing to the development of the society and human resources in Palau through their grassroots activities in various fields such as education, health, social infrastructure, sports, agriculture, fisheries, etc. The total number of dispatch of JICA volunteers to Palau is now 326.
