As part of the organized removal of Unexploded Ordinances (UXO), the National Safety Office of the Bureau of Public Works had tasked Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) and Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) to coordinate and collaborate in the removal of a U.S. 500-pound bomb near Dolphins Pacific in Koror State with the assistance of the U.S Navy EOD Mobile Unit FIVE on July 18.
JMAS discovered the sunken 500lbs bomb and transported it to Imekang Dock in Ngiwal State for NPA, as escorted by the national police, to transport it to the Demolition Site in Melekeok State.
The team expressed their appreciation to Honorable Ellender Ngirameketii and the people of Ngiwal State for their support and for allowing the group to use their dock.
The Office of the President, Koror State Government, Aimeliik State Government, Melekeok State Government, Ngiwal State Government, Bureau of Public Safety, Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) and Historical Preservation Office (HPO) had been assisting the team in their endeavors. (PR)
