Aimeliik State voted to have a Constitutional Convention in a vote of 70 yes over 51 no votes. The last Constitutional Convention held by the State was 33 years ago, in 1989.
In Resolution 12-22 passed by the 12th Aimeliik Legislature calling for the referendum on whether or not to have a Constitutional Convention (Con-Con), it stated, “It has been approximately 33 years since the last amendment to the Aimeliik State Constitution and while the said Constitution has served the State and the people well, the 12th Aimeliik State Legislature believes that certain provisions therein may need to be revisited and amended, if necessary, to reflect the current realities faced by the State of Aimeliik and its people.”
