KOROR, Palau — Palau recorded 4,752 visitor arrivals in May 2025, a 6% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Palau Visitors Authority. However, the total reflects a 12% decline from April’s 5,426 arrivals, aligning with typical seasonal patterns following the spring travel peak.
China remained Palau’s largest tourism market, sending 1,518 visitors in May—down slightly from 1,605 in April but still leading all source markets.
Arrivals from Taiwan held steady, decreasing only marginally from 1,105 in April to 1,097 in May, signaling consistent demand. North American travelers bucked the downward trend, with the USA and Canada market posting an increase from 786 to 851 arrivals.
Japan’s numbers continued to decline, falling from 476 to 395 amid ongoing recovery challenges in that market. Europe saw the steepest drop-off, with visitor arrivals plunging from 758 in April to 368 in May. Australia followed with a similar decline, down from 342 to 160.
South Korea showed slight growth, increasing from 58 to 74 arrivals, while the “Other” markets category dipped slightly from 296 to 289.
Despite the month-on-month drop, the year-over-year growth underscores the importance of market diversification and sustained efforts to support Palau’s tourism recovery.
Meanwhile, outbound travel opportunities for Palau residents are expanding this summer. Special rates are being offered for travel to Hong Kong and Macau, with round-trip fares as low as $400 to Hong Kong and $800 to Macau. These summer travel promotions are valid through August.
According to the Palau International Airport’s July schedule, weekly direct flights between Palau and Hong Kong are being serviced by two chartered airlines, creating increased travel opportunities and potential future tourism links in both directions.
