August 29, 2017 (Marshall Islands) Chief of Staff Secilil Eldebechel represented President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. at the funeral for Ambassador and Former Minister Tony De Brum of the Republic of the Marshall Islands yesterday and read Remengesau’s message to the family of Tony De Brum.
In his letter Remengesau stated, “The people of Palau mourn with you in the loss of your great leader and a real champion of our Islands survival. We mourn because he was also a partner and a friend to many Palauan leaders. Every moment we shared with him was a joy because he was a loving person with great sense of humor, and an inspiration because he was a visionary man who was a mentor to so many young leaders in our region.”
The funeral for late Tony de Brum brought many leaders from the region to Marshall Islands to pay respect, a testament of his leadership in his country and in the region.
Remengesau encouraged in his letter to keep De Brum’s legacy going by continuing what he believed in and “continue to be the voice for the protection of the islands people and our environment.” [/restrict]
