Koror, Palau – On March 16, 2017, the Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB) meeting resulted in an approval of five (5) commercial earthmoving permits and one residential permit.
The commercial permit approvals include permit for amendment/ extension request to construct barracks at Ngerbeched, Koror, permit amendment request for Palau Pacific Resort to alter the PPR Eco Villa Permit to accommodate changes to the layout of the Villa Construction and permit for construction of a two-story Commercial Building at Medalaii, Koror. Other permits are for a construction of a 2-story warehouse with a paved parking lot and a perimeter fence at Ikelau, Koror and a permit for construction of riprap wall along the beachline at Malakal, Koror.
There was only one government project for PPUC to construct a garage at their compound at Malakal, Koror.
It was reported that the deadline to receive comments on the Peleliu Smau Island Sting Ray Resort Project on March 14, 2017 had lapsed and EQPB is compiling comments for final review of the project by the Board.
Detonations of unexploded ordinances found on Babelomekang Island were discussed by EQPB. They also deliberated on the meeting between EQPB, PPUC, and Koror State regarding the Long Island Pump Station. The Board also requested to meet with the PPUC Board to discuss the moratorium on new sewer connections.
EQPB reminds applicants that although their permits have been approved, work should not commence until they have obtained the signed permit with conditions set by the Board. The projects will continue to be monitored to ensure that the environmental protection plans for the specific project are implemented as they should to prevent any damages to the surrounding environment. The Board urges all permittees and contractors to consult with EQPB if they need any assistance with their permitted project. [/restrict]
