AIRAI, Palau (Feb. 19, 2026) — A traffic accident claimed the life of a woman on Thursday near the entrance of Palau Mission Academy in Airai, authorities said.
The Bureau of Public Safety reported that police and emergency responders rushed to the eastbound lane of Ngerikiil Road around noon after receiving reports of a serious incident. Upon arrival, responders found a female Chinese national unresponsive inside a single-vehicle accident.
The victim was transported to Belau National Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff. Authorities have not released her personal details pending notification of next of kin.
Police said the crash appears to involve only one vehicle, and the circumstances leading to the accident remain under investigation. The government is coordinating with relevant authorities, noting that Palau does not have diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China. The closest Chinese embassy is in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
