A foreign national was deported on October 15, 2019 after he was found guilty of Sexual Assault in the Third Degree.

The information obtained by the Times from a confidential source revealed that Bangladeshi national, Abdul Matin, was deported after serving his sentence of three-month jail term which started in August.

Matin previously entered into a guilty plea for the charge of Sexual Assault in the Third Degree, a Class C felony with maximum penalties of five-year imprisonment and $10,000 fine.

In exchange for the plea deal, the court sentenced Matin with five-year supervised probation subject to certain conditions such as serving three-month incarceration in Koror Jail, comply with the sex offender registration requirements, and not commit other crime while in the country, among others.

The court also ordered that upon his release from prison, he should immediately depart from the country at his own expense. The remaining amount of the $1,500 cash bail he posted on May 30, 2019 was also used to purchase his airline ticket.

Matin was convicted of a charge involving an incident that transpired on March 5, 2019. He was served an arrest warrant on May 1, 2019. The Times resorted to withheld further information on the case to protect the dignity of the victim. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
