A forest monitoring program will be started by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Tourism (MRET)starting the first week of September to be able to gather data about the status of Palau’s forest.
Natural Resources, Environment, and Tourism Minister Umiich Sengebau told the media during the press conference on Wednesday that personnel from the ministry is now working on the plotting to identify different types of forest in Palau.
“We are very close to completion of identification of those plots,” Sengebau said, explaining further that he himself will be out on the first plot that was identified to collect information and date.
“We hope that by the next environment symposium we will be able to give a status report on the forest of Palau,” Sengebau added.
According to Sengebau, they will be plotting different areas to study including forests that upland, river forest, savanna, and mangrove. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
