“Investing in PCS is investing in our future”, said President Surangel Whipps Jr. and former Chairman of Palau Conservation Society’s Board of Directors on Founders Day Luncheon held Thursday, April 6th at Palau Royal Resort. A modest gathering of previous Chairpersons and Executive Directors of Palau Conservation Society (PCS), hosted by the current Board and Chairman TJ Imrur Remengesau, to recognize the Founders of PCS who coalesced around a vision twenty-nine years ago that led to the establishment of a Mission and the organization to where it stands today.
The Visionaries that founded PCS are Dr. Minoru F. X. Ueki, Juan Polloi, David Goro Idip, Adalbert Eledui, Belhaim Sakuma, Noah Idechong, Maura Gordon, Julita Tellei, Sandra S. Pierantozzi, and Faustina Rehuher. Mr. Idechong spoke on behalf of the Founders, reflecting on their vision and some of the milestones achieved to date then challenged PCS to continue to work with our communities to foster good stewardship of biodiversity and sustainable use of resources.
Looking forward, Executive Director Elbuchel Sadang kicked-off planning for 2024 which is the 30th year anniversary of PCS by asking the Founders and former leaders of the organization to contribute to a theme for the occasion that celebrates years past and captures their vision for the next 3 decades.
Also present to recognize the occasion were PCS’s key partners for conservation, Dr. Yimnang Golbuu, CEO of the Palau International Coral Reef Center, Minrang Kloulechad of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and family representatives of Founders no longer with us or were unable to attend the occasion.
