On May 10, 2021, IP&E Palau Incorporated donated $15,000 to Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) to support the research projects and education/outreach programs at the Center. The ongoing research projects include fish-stock surveys to determine the status of reef fish populations around Palau. The support will also enable PICRC to continue monitoring of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) that are part of the Protected Areas Network (PAN).
The funding from IP&E will also support PICRC’s long-term coral reef monitoring program. These studies will allow the Center to provide accurate information on the changes to Palau’s coral reef, including damages and recovery of our reefs from past typhoons such as Haiyan and Bopha as well as the damages from the recent disturbances such as Typhoon Surigae. In addition to the research work, the donation will help the Outreach team continue to provide environmental education and awareness among our students, youth and our community.
IP&E owns and operates the retail, commercial supply and as well as the distribution of Shell Fuel and Lubricants on Guam, Saipan and Palau. However, believing in the Center’s work and supporting the Center’s research projects and education/outreach program is very important part of its business and mission. Therefore, PICRC is very grateful for IP&E’s effort in supporting the Center especially during this pandemic.
