On April 11th, 2025, the Japan Foundation, through the Embassy of Japan in Palau, donated Japanese Language Learning Materials to Palau High School during a handover ceremony on campus.
The ceremony was attended by officials from Embassy of Japan, Director of the Bureau of School Operations Mr. Raynold Mechol, PHS Principal Mr. Smyth Rdang, Japanese language teacher Ms. Nogami, and many other students and faculty of Palau High School. The donation from Japan Foundation aims to support the Japanese language learning students of Palau High School by providing them with materials they can use to deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture.

During the ceremony, Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. ONO Shunsuke encouraged students to explore their interests in Japanese language and culture. This was followed by a few remarks given by Director Mechol, he encouraged the students to take advantage of the many opportunities that come their way. He said that traveling and joining exchange programs help students gain new knowledge that they can use to help their country in the future.
Following the donation ceremony, students who recently participated in Japanese government-sponsored exchange programs presented to the audience about their experiences during the programs. These included the JENESYS Program (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths), the Sakura Science Exchange Program, and Hi! PALM 2024 (High School Pan-Pacific Leaders Meeting 2024).
Each group of students gave a presentation reflecting on their time in Japan, highlights of their trips, and how the programs deepened their understanding of Japanese society and culture, science and technology, and international friendship.
The program concluded with remarks from Principal Rdang, who expressed gratitude to Japan Foundation for the donations and to the Embassy of Japan in Palau for making these meaningful experiences possible for Palau High School Students.
The Embassy of Japan in Palau is committed to supporting the educational development of the students of Palau.
