June 4, 2017 (Ngeremlengui, Palau) John Sugiyama, a former Senator and businessman, became the  

[restrict] new Ngirturong, the highest chief of Ngeremlengui in a traditional installation ceremony on Sunday.

John Sugiyama, who bore the title Mengesebuuch, took his seat as Ngirturong at Imeong, after acceptance from four other high chiefs and four lower chiefs of Imeong hamlet. The seat became vacant after the death of former Ngirturong Yamazaki Rengiil.

At the traditional installation, 9 palauan moneys (one of which was a bachel), $45,000 dollars and 22 esiuch (turtle shell money) were collected from the matriarchs of Ngerturong clan in support of his appointment.  [/restrict]
