Koshiba and Yano question need for Koror State election runoff

November 30, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Two citizens of Koror State, former Senator Joshua Koshiba and Norbert Yano, in a letter through attorney to Palau Election Commission questioned the legality of conducting a runoff election for Koror State governor on December 12.

The letter states that Koror State Constitution states that the “Governor shall be elected at the next general election” and did not mention another election.  Based on this, the letter states, Eyos Rudimch won the general election therefore should be governor.

Koror State Public Law KSPL No. K6-123-2001 further defines that a candidate for governor must receive majority of votes casts and if not, a runoff election shall take place on the second Tuesday of December.

The letter debates the legality of KSPLA No. K6-123-2001, stating that it was contrary to Koror State Constitution.

Both candidates have not expressed any position on this issue and both are actively campaigning for the December 12^th Runoff Election. [/restrict]
