The Narcotics Enforcement Agency (NEA) continues its fight against drugs bringing in about 39 drug operation since the start of 2017.


NEA Director Ismael Aguon in a data submitted to Vice President and Minister of Justice Raynold Oilouch stated that total number of operations as of May 2017 since the task force was created is 156.

He said that from November 2015 to November 2016 there were  117 operation with  91 cases investigated in November 2016 with  additional 24 cases this year.

The number of cases charged in Year 2016 is 51, Total year to date is 55 additional or 4 new cases.

There were  61 persons charged as of November 2016 and  additional 11 persons been charged this year.

He also added that the number of Drug evidence submitted to Lab as November 2016  is 65, with  additional 17 drug exhibits already submitted with an additional 22 still pending submission to the lab.

As of May this year, the NEA stated that there are 42 defendants who have pled guilty or have been found guilty.

There are 13 defendants awaiting trial.

BDETF was dissolved in March  following the issuance of a presidential executive order that created the NEA   under Ministry of Justice (MOJ).

Executive Order No. 394 established a new agency under the Ministry of Justice, as a result the duties and role of the BDETF has been transferred to the NEA.

The NEA is now a permanent agency within the MOJ but separate from the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS). [/restrict]
