The Palau Housing Authority (PHA) will now have its own building in Ngeburch, Melekeok which will stand next to the Palau National Archives building.

In an interview with Island Times during the groundbreaking ceremony of the building on June 6, PHA Chairman of the Board Scott Yano said that this will be the first time that PHA will have its own office.

Yano said that since the Trust Territory times in the 1970s, PHA had been renting an office space and just for the past 10 years, they had paid over $100,000 for the rental of office space alone.

PHA is currently renting an office space at the PIDC Building.

According to Chairman Yano, the fund to be used for the construction of the building is sourced from PHA’s earnings over the years and he further emphasized that they are not using the $5-Million loan for the project.

The two-storey building which is worth $398,863 was awarded to MR Construction and it is eyed for completion by January 22 next year.

During his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Yano said that the relocation of “PHA’s office building will further assist with future economic development to the State of Melekeok and Babeldaob.

President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. was also present to grace the ceremony. (Rhealyn C. Pojas)
