November 6, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Ngaraard State General Election this Thursday, November 9, will kick off a slew of States general elections this year.
Ngaraard State General Election includes election of new governor and new legislature. Four candidates are vying for the seat of governor, incumbent Isaac Bai, former Director of Foreign Affairs Isaac Soaladaob, current Speaker of Ngaraard Legislature Benjamin Iskawa and John Mengidab.
There are 10 candidates for four at-large seats. For each of the five county representatives, only Choll county has two vying for the seat. The other four are uncontested.
Ngaraard State has the third highest number of registered voters and many of their voters reside outside of Palau. Ngaraard candidates as well as other States that have general election this year have been busy trying to woo votes outside of Palau, especially Guam and Saipan. Numbers from those jurisdictions could have an impact on the final tally. The last day for absentee ballot to be received in Palau is November 16, 2017, seven days after the election day.
Koror State General Election will be following the heels of Ngaraard Election on November 14th. Ngchesar State General Election will follow on the 24th of November. [/restrict]
