SUVA, 19 APRIL 2017 (FBC NEWS) — The Pacific region is vulnerable to emerging diseases or outbreaks due to limited health resources.

World Health Organisation (WHO) representative to the Pacific, Dr Corinne Capuano told FBC News that alot of work has been done in early detection of diseases but people need to be well informed so they know how to respond to certain outbreaks.

“It’s also important that people can quickly share information so the Pacific can be ready, they can know what’s happening in their neighboring countries, areas and territories – so they can prepare themselves to respond to coming outbreaks or to an emerging disease , not only in the Pacific but even outside of the pacific.

The Pacific is very vulnerable- we’re talking about small countries, so we sometimes have limited resources so important people need work together, share information and support each other.”

Capuano was speaking at the 2017 Regional Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network Meeting in Lami today – where more than 20 delegates from around the region are discussing ways of improving public health….PACNEWS [/restrict]
