April 27, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Two Palauan students, Mr. Brent Naito and Mr. Rongel Marcil received acceptance to two top prestigious US military academies, the United States Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval Academy.
Mr. Brent Naito, who applied to both West Point and US Naval Academy, got accepted by both schools and will make a decision on which one to attend. Mr. Marcil received the acceptance of US Naval Academy.
Both schools have very competitive acceptance process. West Point accepts only 10% of total applicants each year from all over United States. In 2015, over 14,000 students applied and only 1,100 were accepted. US Naval Academy has 8.5% acceptance rate, with over 16,000 applying and only 1,300 accepted.
Beside academic performance, both schools search for students that stand out in the crowd, that have leadership skills as well as other outstanding abilities that speak to their potential.
Both Palauans candidates exhibited such qualities to get accepted into these prestigious institutions. Mr. Brent Naito is currently a senior at Damien Memorial High School in Hawaii and Rongel Marcil is a senior at Xavier High School in Chuuk, FSM. [/restrict]
