Mr. Bryan Ngiraked, a student from Palau Community College (PCC) is currently interning at the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC). Ngiraked is currently majoring in the Environmental/Marine Science program.
Ngiraked, a proud resident of Peleliu State, expresses his desire to be a teacher one day and would also be open to a Protected Areas Network (PAN) Ranger for Peleliu State. He is a Palau High School graduate.
Ngiraked is interning at the Research and Aquarium Department under the supervision of its Director, Ms. Geraldine Rengiil. During his time at the Center so far, Ngiraked has been collecting, inputting, and analyzing data for PICRC’s ongoing Seagrass Monitoring Project. He has been working with research assistants, Ms. Randa Johnson and Mr. Geory Mereb. He has also been recently certified as an Open water SCUBA diver by Sam’s Tours. This opportunity was made possible by the Government of Palau’s 2016 Year of the Youth Small Grant Scheme, which is supported by a Grant from the Government of India.
Over the years, PCC students, especially from the Environmental/Marine Science program, have continually interned at PICRC. PICRC is happy to work with PCC and its students to help raise their capacities and further their education in marine science. PICRC will continue to strengthen its partnership with Palau Community College and its students in hopes that one day, Palau will be able to produce more local scientist that will help in Palau’s efforts in its marine conservation and management in Palau and the region.
