Koror, Palau – By all accounts, the sold out Palau Conservation Society 2017 Gala, held on October 12, was a great success. The event took place on the outdoor grounds of Palau Royal Resort. Guests represented private business, state and national government, members of the Council of Chiefs, board members and founders, partner agencies, and supporters. Ueki welcomed guests and longtime friends and reflected on PCS’ history of protecting Palau’s environment. The Chairman spoke to theme of the event saying, “Tonight, please listen carefully to the things we have to say… and when it comes time for you to “Invest in a future for our Children,” please raise your hand and say “Yes, I will invest!”

Despite the torrential rains that came pouring from the sky during the evening, guests had a great time enjoying dance performances from Ngarchelong and Tobi. They also heard speeches from the majority of the PCS board and Charlene Mersai of the National Environmental Protection Committee. One of the highlights of the night was the Live Auction. Items auctioned off included a handmade spear gun and all-expense paid trips to Babeldoab and Peleliu. Things became competitive when guests started bidding against each other in a frantic attempt to win the coveted prizes. The Peleliu trip (sponsored, in part, by Delegate Jonathan “Cio” Isechal) was the highest bid prize of the night and went for $460.

In the end, the PCS Gala collected $43,700. A number of individuals and partners made the event possible, but PCS would like to give a very special thanks to the Gala’s Premier Sponsors: Raymond James, Shimbros Inc., and Surangel & Sons Co. [/restrict
