Palau’s only research and aquarium facility, the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC), offers a multitude of services to the people of Palau, as well as visitors from around the world.
With its multifunction facilities, PICRC provides a conducive environment for marine research, meetings, workshops, and more.
Since the beginning of the year, the centers facilities have been actively utilized by numerous individuals and organizations here in Palau and around the world, with over 100 meetings, workshop and events.
The construction of the Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. (TR) Building was completed in March 2017 and it offers ample office spaces, accommodations for visiting researchers, and a state-of-the-art conference room. Since it opened, the TR Conference Room has been used by the Forum Economic Ministers Meeting, South Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Office of the President, Office of Climate Change, United Nations, and many others.
PICRC’s other conference room, The Kedarm Conference Room, has hosted many meetings and workshops since the beginning of the year, for both local and international visitors. Aside from the TR and Kedarm Conference usage, the Center has held multiple functions and receptions on PICRC grounds. In addition to the events held at PICRC, researchers from around the world continue to visit the Center, utilizing the Center’s laboratories and equipment to conduct influential science.
The income from the use of the Center’s facilities directly supports PICRC’s research, aquarium, and education and outreach programs, therefore contributing to PICRC’s mission – to guide efforts supporting coral reef stewardship through research and its applications for the people of Palau, Micronesia and the world.
