The Communications and Outreach Office at the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) welcomed eight students and two teachers from Palau Mission Academy (PMA) to its facilities on October 9.

As part of a Marine Biology Elective Class, the purpose of the visit was for students to explore mangrove ecosystems. Starting the lesson with review activities and a brief lecture about mangroves, the students were later taken to Taoch er a Bibiroi, a mangrove trail in Ngermid. Led by Sherry Ngirmeriil, Professor at Palau Community College (PCC), the students learned how to identify different types of mangroves while on the trail. At the same time, students furthered their understanding of the significance of mangroves and reflected on their experience with a poem.

Seeking to expand its school programs with scientific reasoning and hands-on activities as a priority, the Palau International Coral Reef Center would like to thank PMA for their visit to the Center. At the same time, the Communications and Outreach Office would like to encourage more teachers to take advantage of the education programs offered by the Center.  For more information contact us at outreach@picrc.org.
