SoftBank Corporation, a global telecommunications service provider based in Japan, and the Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) recently signed an agreement to jointly develop a new 4G Pocket WiFi rental service for visitors to Palau.
A 4G Pocket WiFI device, also called a portable WiFi router or “MiFi,” is a small wireless hotspot about the size of a smartphone that connects to the internet through the mobile network.
PNCC’s 4G Pocket WiFi allows up to 3 smartphones or tablets to log on to the Internet with a fast and secure connection wherever there is a PalauCel mobile signal.
“Pocket WiFi service is very helpful to our Japanese visitors since their smartphones operate on a different network frequency,” commented AGM Teriong. “It’s designed as a tourist-focused service, similar to roaming since the visitors can use their own phones in Palau.”
During the introductory, trial period, the 4G Pocket WiFi Rental Service will be offered exclusively at the PNCC Airport Kiosk, which opens to meet scheduled flight arrivals.
Two plans are offered, the “Short-stay Plan” with 10GB of mobile data for 5 days at $125, and the “Long-stay Plan” with 20GB for 14 days at $250. (PR)
