Palau National Communications Corporation (PNCC) would like to announce a milestone in the infrastructure project to launch 4G mobile data service in Koror and Airai.

On September 4, 2017, new software will be installed in the PalauCel system to prepare for the introduction of 4G mobile data service.

Customers don’t need to make any changes in their phones. The user codes, Airtime cards, and SIM cards will not change.

The new software will provide some improvements in user instructions for mobile data plans that will apply to current 3G users. The main benefit will be the ability to subscribe to multiple plans at the same time and to carry-over unused data to a new plan (as long as you subscribe to the new plan before the plan expiration date).

During September, PNCC will begin the installation of the new 4G/3G antennas in Koror and Airai, which may cause some temporary service outages.  PNCC will continue to update the public.

PNCC’s new 4G service will offer very high-speed mobile data capabilities to take advantage of the new submarine fiber optic connectivity for Palau.  The PalauCel 4G network will be 4G LTE band 28 (700MHz).

The PalauCel 4G system will support both 3G and 4G smartphones, but older “2G” cellphones will not work on the 4G sites planned for Koror and Airai (2G technology is for voice and texting services only).
