”At the meeting, Dr. Cambers gave an overview of this project and explained its significance to Palau especially in regards to water and food security. This is a grant project with two objectives:

1) The RENI project is funded by the European Union and implemented by SPC in collaboration with the governments and peoples of FSM, RMI, and Palau; and

2) The specific objective of RENI is to strengthen the implementation of a sustainable, multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder approach to readiness for future El Nino events. “PPUC’s priority is water supply that includes water sources, transmission and distribution networks, treatment plants, and storage tanks,” stated CEO Isechal. He further informed Dr. Cambers of two PPUC projects that are specific to El-Nino preparedness including the investigation of new wells in Koror and Airai State as well as the expansion and upgrade of the water distribution system in Peleliu State.

With Palau still under El Nino Watch, PPUC extends its deepest appreciation to Dr. Cambers and SPC for this great opportunity and hopes that a partnership be fostered in the near future in order to improve PPUC’s El Nino preparedness efforts. [/restrict]
