In line with the 2017 Earth Day theme “Environmental and Climate Literacy,” PPUC had a booth to educate and promote water and energy conservation as well as renewable energy. The booth had many displays, brochures, and information packets for the kids. The kids were especially excited to win great prizes by answering simple trivia questions and completing crossword puzzles. Prizes included T-shirts, surge protectors, energy saver light bulbs, mini solar lights, toilet flappers, and hose and faucet repair kits.
The PPUC Renewable Energy Division (RED) had an energy efficient light bulb demonstration to show the difference between energy saver light bulbs and traditional incandescent bulbs. The kids were amazed to see firsthand the benefit of using energy saver light bulbs such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of the old, traditional light bulb that uses a great amount of energy. The RED team also brought their solar-powered water pump and demonstrated the process in which solar energy is converted to electricity in order to power up the water pump. This was one of the very popular demonstrations at the Fair. PPUC is grateful to have been part of this great and important event and looks forward to participate in future events. #ppuc #2017earthdayfair. [/restrict]
