December 11, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Red Ribbon Months signify Drunk, Drugged and Driving Prevention for months of December, January and February stated Presidential Proclamation No. 17-224.

The Proclamation urges everyone to work to eliminate irresponsible drunk and drugged driving practices.

According to Ministry of Justice data, from October 2016 to October 2017, alcohol was linked to 82% of aggravated assaults, 98% of disorderly conducts, 88% of terroristic threatening, and 76% of domestic violence cases.

Furthermore, alcohol and drugs are among the leading causes of deaths for people between ages of 10-21 and studies show that youths that begin drinking and abusing alcohol before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependency.

The theme for this Red Ribbon Months is “Your Future is Key, So Stay Drug Free.”

Proclamation calls on all levels of community, all public institutions and individuals to raise awareness and demonstrate their commitment to promote alcohol and drug free lifestyles by wearing and displaying the red ribbons during the 3-months campaign. [/restrict]
