On October 1, President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. accredited H.E. Dr. Jozsef Bencze as the first non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to the Republic of Palau during the presentation of credentials ceremony at the National Capitol in Ngerulmud, Melekeok.
During the ceremony, President Remengesau acknowledged the strong historical ties shared by Palau and Hungary despite recently establishing formal diplomatic relations in September of 2017. Both nations share historical relations through a local high school, Mindszenty High School, which was named after the late Jozsef Cardinal Mindszenty, the Prince Primate, Archbishop of Esztergom, cardinal and leader of the Catholic Church in Hungary.
In congratulating Ambassador Bencze, President Remengesau further expressed the Republic of Palau’s desires to foster cooperation and nurture relations with the Government of Hungary, and to explore partnership for the upcoming 2020 Our Oceans Conference in Palau.
Ambassador Bencze expressed his excitement and commitment to enhancing diplomacy and economic contacts with Palau, including developing cooperation on cultural exchange, people-to-people exchange and exploring assistance on health and medicine, including areas of sports and education.

Minister Elbuchel Sadang, Minister Umiich Sengebau, Minister Faustina RehuherMarugg, Minister Charles Obichang, Minister Sinton Solablai, and Ambassador Bencze’s 11-year old son and a member of his Embassy staff. (PR)
