President Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. extended his congratulations and well-wishes to Dr. Atsushi Sunami, the newly appointed President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
“The Foundations, with the support of the Chairman Sasakawa and the Nippon Foundation, have been true friends of Palau in partnering to support our shared vision for a healthy, safe, and resilient ocean.” Stated Remengesau in his congratulatory letter.
Furthermore, it stated, “Palau’s initiatives over my tenure as President, most notably the implementation of the Palau Marine Sanctuary, would not have been possible without the Foundation’s support. Your personal commitment, expertise, and leadership has been instrumental in this partnership.”
Sasakawa Peace Foundation and Nippon Foundation donated millions in support of the Palau Marine Sanctuary including new patrol boat, new building for Department of Marine Law Enforcement, fuel for next 10 years of patrol boat operation and salaries for 15 crew members and training. The value of the donation is about $70 million dollars.
