August 28, 2017 (Koror, Palau) Report from Divisions of Labor and Immigration under the Ministry of Justice shows 13 citations issued over a two-month monitoring period of 1,208 contract workers.
According to the Labor Division report, 122 workers were sent home due to expiring contracts as well as employers choosing to terminate employees by paying necessary fines to terminate employees.
Immigration report show that 26 citations for Overstay were issued and out of that 26, 7 were sent home as result of the Overstay.
Nationalities that were cited for Labor violations include workers from Bali, Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Korea, Philippines and Taiwan. For Immigration violations, nationalities include Chinese, Korean, Nepali, Bangladeshi, and Filipino.
Reports state that monitoring also resulted in more companies coming forward to renew their employees’ contracts.
Based on last census report, there were over 4,000 foreign workers in the Republic. [/restrict]
