January 15, 2018 (Koror, Palau) Senator Uduch Sengebau-Senior wrote Minister of State Faustina Rehuher-Marugg expressing full support of Minister Marugg’s response to Senate President’s letter of December 28, 2017.

“I agree with your position that our relationship with Taiwan, ROC will not impair or deter anyone’s desire to seek better collaboration and cooperation in trade with partners in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Should Senator Baules desire to seek further economic trade with his partners in PRC, he is certainly free to do so. Our diplomatic ties with Taiwan do not prevent him or anyone in Palau from doing business with partners in PRC,” stated Senator Senior in her letter to Minister Marugg.
In the letter, Senator Senior said that Senator Baules, according Tia Belau report, had written another letter to Minister Marugg regarding statements made by Ambassador Dilmei Olkeriil in last year’s interview with China News Agency in Taiwan.
“Senate President Baules has previously expressed his individual desire to establish a treaty (official agreement) with PRC and that may explain his grave displeasure with Ambassador Olkeriil’s statement that “Palau will not be establishing official ties with China,” added Senior in her letter.
Senator Senior added that the Resolution to establish Trade with PRC was rejected by the Senate on July 11, 2017 and that she voted “no” on that resolution.
“I must make it clear that I do not support Senate President Baules’ vilifying statements about Ambassador Olkeriil and I must also make it clear that as a Senator in the 10th OEK I continue to support and treasure our relationship with Taiwan, Republic of China,” stated Senator Uduch Sengebau-Senior.
