Flights from Macau expected in May

Visitor arrivals for the month of March 2023 went up by 2,926, about a 400% increase over the same time last year, but only about 32% of March 2019 pre-COVID arrivals.

This month’s numbers show Taiwan leading with 36% of the market share, followed by USA/Canada with 26%.  In the same month of 2019, China led with 2,096 or 28% of the market, followed by Japan with 27% of the visitor market share.

Visitor arrivals may see a greater jump in May with the expected arrival of direct charter flights from Macau, China.  According to information received by Island Times, charter flights from Macau will fly 3 times a week (Saturday, Thursday, and Monday)  starting on April 29.

Information on the Macau flight has not been confirmed by Palau authority, but Minister Iyar Obichang did confirm early this month that there were talks of the possible charter from Macau, but no formal applications have been submitted. (By: L.N. Reklai)
