July 22 2024 – Hundreds of Olympic athletes representing the athletes of the territories of the 206 NOCβs and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team made a powerful call for peace. They gathered in a solemn moment wearing scarfs with the message βGive peace a chanceβ emphasizing the powerful role that sport can play to foster peace and mutual understanding.
IOC President Thomas Bach said, βToday you are peace ambassadors of our time. You, the Olympic athletes will show us how our world would be, if we all lived in the same Olympic spirit of peaceful co-existence. You are respecting the same rules and most importantly you are respecting each other. You are sending a resounding message of peace from Paris to the world.β
At the same time, the Paris 2024 Olympic Truce Mural was inaugurated. The athletes representing all five continents signed the Olympic Truce Mural along with IOC President, Paris 2024 Organizing Committee President, Chef de Mission for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, Chair of the IOC Athleteβs Commission and the entire Executive Board of the IOC.
