Four public schools namely the Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary schools were granted Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) Accreditation Candidacy Status last February 1.
Having obtained ACS WASC Candidacy Status, the four schools are now working to complete and submit school reports showing progress made in addressing the recommendations of the ACS WASC Initial Visit Committee. Prior to the end of the candidacy period, these four schools will conduct a full self-study assessment and submit a self-study report to ACS WASC.

Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary schools began the WASC accreditation application process in early 2017. After almost a year since the WASC accreditation training of school personnel, application for accreditation, completion of school reports, and the initial visits, these four schools successfully achieved the ACS WASC Accreditation Candidacy Status. The school principals, teachers, staff, students, parents, and community members of Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary schools are commended for having successfully achieved this important milestone for Palau public elementary schools.
The next group of public elementary schools including two private high schools is presently going through the ACS WASC accreditation application process this school year. These public elementary schools include Airai, Ngarchelong, Peleliu, Ngeremlengui, Aimeliik, and Ngaraard elementary schools. It is planned that it will take about three years for all the public elementary schools to complete the initial ACS WASC accreditation.
The accreditation of Palau public schools is a major initiative of the Ministry of Education for implementing the Education Master Plan 2017-2027 strategic goal to ensure student readiness to enter post-secondary education, training, and the world of work. Currently, Palau High School is the only public school with full ACS WASC Accreditation while Koror, George B. Harris, Meyuns, and Melekeok elementary school have obtained ACS WASC Accreditation Candidacy Status. [/restrict]
