Ambassador Ilana Seid, Palau’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has been nominated by President Surangel Whipps Jr. for the post of Palau’s Ambassador to the State of Israel.

Ambassador Seid, if approved by the Senate, will serve both as Palau’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations as well as Palau’s Ambassador to the State of Israel.

In his nomination letter to the Senate, President Whipps said, “Ambassador Seid currently serves as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Palau to the United Nations; therefore, this nomination will be an expansion of her portfolio to serve both offices concurrently representing the interests of the Republic.  This dual accreditation is both a responsible use of personnel, resources and a strategic opportunity given Ambassador Seid’s knowledge and familiarity with the State of Israel.”

If approved by the Senate as Ambassador to the State of Israel, Ambassador Seid will be the second Palau Permanent Representative to the United Nations to be appointed a dual accreditation.

Former Ambassador Olai Ngedikes Uludong served as Palau’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations as well as Palau’s Ambassador to the European Union.
