KOROR, Palau – The Australian Embassy hosted the inaugural Australia Awards Alumni Event on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Ambassador Turner highlighted how the Australia Awards program strengthens shared values, recognizing tertiary education as crucial for a nation’s development.

The event served as a platform to connect and acknowledge the significant contributions Australian alumni have made to Palau across government, the private sector, and the community. The Ambassador also announced funding opportunities for alumni, including professional development or community-based projects focused on climate change or gender equality.

Marking 30 years of Australia-Palau diplomatic relations, the event celebrated over 30 years of Palauan beneficiaries of the Australia Awards scholarship program. Forty Palauan alumni have earned advanced degrees in various fields like health, environmental management, and foreign affairs. Currently, 32 of these alumni contribute their expertise to Palau’s growth, prosperity, and resilience.

Offered by the Australian Government, Australia Awards are prestigious scholarships for future global leaders. Applications for the 2025 intake open June 3 and close August 2, 2024. Six scholarships are available: two undergraduate, three master’s, and one Bachelor of Aviation Management.
