On World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we’d like to acknowledge Palau Red Cross Society’s (PRCS) continued efforts providing support services to community members and those most in need.
In May 2020, the Australian Government partnered with the PRCS by providing AUD17,500 to support COVID-19 public communication efforts including volunteer training and printing and distribution of COVID-19 information to communities. With the onset of the pandemic, it was imperative the community was well informed and prepared to face this new challenge.
In April 2021 and again in December 2021, through the National Emergency Committee, Australia provided funds to support PRCS response teams establish evacuation centres and conduct disaster assessments in preparation for and in response to Typhoon Surigae and Tropical Storm Rai. After Typhoon Surigae, Australia also funded two humanitarian flights which brought in emergency relief items for distribution by PRCS to households impacted by the disaster.
In 2022 we’ve been pleased to work with the PRCS again by supplying essential PPE, rapid antigen tests and hand sanitiser to support their efforts in responding to COVID-19. Through our partnership with @AustralianRedCross, PRCS and counterparts across the Pacific, Australia has delivered vital supplies and equipment to support organisations operate in a COVID-19 safe manner.
In the spirit of this year’s theme, let’s show the world we can all #BeHumanKind.
