Important element in inner healing of deep wounds is belonging/self-acceptance. Deep wounds are results of abuses from childhood (physical, mental, psychological, emotional and/or sexual abuse). We begin by building our self-esteem.
Learning to appreciate ourselves by acknowledging and embracing our talents and gifts. These parts of our being become clear after we forgive those who abused us. Dead or alive you forgive them. You don’t have to be their friend. Just forgive and get on your way home to yourself.
Belonging in psychology refers to the human emotional need to be accepted and connected to a group or community. It’s a fundamental human motivation that influences our well-being, relationships, and even our behavior. A strong sense of belonging is linked to positive outcomes like mental and physical health, while a lack of belonging can lead to loneliness and negative health consequences.
Jess is a kindhearted woman who realizes after her husband leaves that sometimes being so kindhearted can be to her detriment. Her husband still tries to manipulate her, she finds herself still caring for his rotten, verbally abusive mother even after her son left her.
This movie BELONGING shows Jess’s journey to herself. It’s on YouTube. Check it out.
Being rejected on a daily basis is murderous. Criticized daily kills the heart especially a child who looks up to you for life. It’s like tying a rope around your neck and dank you in the ocean surrounded by sharks. When you think you’re going to die for lack of air or the shark looks ready to take a bite they pull you up. They control you, Gaslight you and repeat the abuse until you die or grow up and run away.
In my case I found Jesus, the best friend anyone can ever have. You’re accepted not because what you are capable or pretty but because he is pure love unconditional. He invites us to come to him and rest.
When I read these words of Jesus I cried tears of gratitude…. finally somebody understands me:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
