Ngaraard State Donates Clams to Support Ngiwal’s Ecotourism Program

On August 30, 2025 – In a meaningful show of inter-state partnership, the Honorable Sharp Sakuma, Governor of Ngaraard State, donated 55 clams to Ngiwal State to strengthen and enhance its ecotourism program. The donation was formally received by Paramount Chief Uongruios Elliot Udui, alongside members of the Kelulul a Kiuuluul.

This initiative builds on the momentum of the “Enhancement of Integrated Management of Coastal Ecosystem in Palau for Strengthening their Resilience to Climate Change” project. While the collaborative effort with the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) officially concluded in February 2025, PICRC remains committed to supporting Ngiwal State as it continues to enhance its ecotourism initiatives.

Governor Sakuma highlighted the spirit of partnership behind the donation, stating:
“Ngaraard is proud to assist our neighbors in developing their programs, and we look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships and collaboration together.”

This generous contribution underscores the collective commitment to safeguarding Palau’s natural resources while fostering sustainable livelihoods through community-based initiatives, like ecotourism. PICRC is grateful for the collaboration with Ngaraard and Ngiwal States and remains committed to supporting Palau’s states in building reef resilience and sustainable resource management.
