KOROR, Palau – A young Palauan life was cut short early Friday morning in a car accident.
Christian Elwel, a high school student who attended his prom on Thursday, June 6, died after the car he was a passenger in crashed into a guardrail near King’s in Malakal.
Police arrived at the scene to find Elwel deceased. The driver and another passenger were not present. Elwel was expected to graduate this week.
This is the second fatal traffic accident in Palau this month. Last week, a car accident in Oikull, Airai, claimed the life of a young father and injured three family members, including a two-year-old child in critical condition awaiting medical referral.
Family members of those involved in the Oikull accident allege a lack of signage or flagging personnel to warn of ongoing utility work. Authorities have disputed these claims. (By: L.N. Reklai)
