Sonsorol State honors its Constitution
KOROR, Palau – Sonsorol State celebrated its 42nd Constitutional Day on January 22, 2025, with a vibrant gathering at the Belau National Museum. Approximately 40 to 50 attendees, including community members, traditional leaders, government officials, and framers of the Sonsorol Constitution, came together to mark the occasion.
Delegate Yutaka Gibbons Jr. emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in his remarks. “We should continue in the light of unity and cooperation for our state’s constitution and our people,” he said, urging attendees to reflect on the values that have guided Sonsorol over the past 42 years.
The event held particular significance with the presence of the framers of the Sonsorol Constitution, who shared their experiences in crafting the document that continues to shape the state’s governance. Governor Lucy Pedro and traditional chiefs representing the four municipalities also attended, highlighting the enduring connection between past and present leadership.
Festivities included quizzes on the constitution, games, and raffles, fostering an engaging and interactive atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a feast featuring traditional food, drinks, and cake, adding a sense of community and celebration to the evening.
The 42nd Constitutional Day celebration not only reflected on Sonsorol’s progress but also reaffirmed a shared commitment to unity, tradition, and future development.
