The Cleared Ground Demining (CGD) Teams spend a number of days recently just to remove a US 500lb aircraft bomb from Peleliu’s Bloody Nose Ridge.
The teams, who have all previously received training from rope-rigging professionals, applied their low and high angle rope-rigging skills to safely remove the unexploded ordnance.
CGD is experienced in dealing with WWII bombs, and will conduct render safe procedures to allow the removal of ordnance for transport to CGD’s designated demolition ranges for controlled explosive destruction, rather than blowing the ordnance in-situ where it is found, as aside from the disruption to the public, this can risk surrounding infra-structure and can have negative environmental impacts.
