Chatime, the largest teahouse franchise in the world, will soon open its doors in Palau.
During President Surangel Whipps Jr.’s first official trip to Taiwan to open the first “bubble travel” between Palau and Taiwan, his father Surangel Whipps Sr., who was on the same flight, signed a contract with the largest teahouse franchise in the world, Chatime.
The event, televised in Taiwan, showed Surangel Whipps Sr. and Eric Whipps joined by Yao-Hui Yang, Chairman of La Kaffa International Co. Ltd., Chatime’s mother company, to sign the franchise contract.
James C. F. Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, a “top trade lobbying body” in Taiwan which helped to “broker the deal”, was present to witness the signing event, according to Taiwan news network Channel 152.
The deal was first discussed 2 years ago between La Kaffe Chairman and Surangel Whipps Jr., who was then the CEO of Surangel & Sons.
Surangel Whipps Sr. said they waited because they wanted to open the franchise in the new store which is currently under construction. Surangel & Sons’ new mall is under construction in Ngetkib, Airai, and is expected to open around summer time.
Mr. Yao-Hui Wang of La Kaffa said they anticipate opening the shop around August of this year.
Surangel Whipps Sr., Eric Whipps and one of Whipps’ grandchildren are reported to have been on the flight to Taiwan for medical reasons.
