Koror, Palau — National and community leaders are set to convene on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center for the upcoming Cheldebechel Forum, an event focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing practical solutions to key national concerns.
Held under the theme, “Keeping People Safe, Supported, and Connected in Palau: Community Solutions in Practice,” the forum will bring together government officials, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and community advocates for a day of dialogue and shared planning.
Organizers say the forum is designed as a platform for partnership — encouraging open discussion between national leadership and grassroots voices. The goal is to move beyond identifying problems and instead highlight realistic, community-based responses that can be strengthened through coordinated action.
Seven major issue areas will guide the discussions.
Illegal drugs remain a growing concern, particularly in relation to youth safety and community wellbeing. Panelists are expected to examine prevention efforts, enforcement challenges, and the importance of rehabilitation and family support systems.
Environmental protection will also be a central topic. Leaders will explore how conservation, climate resilience, and waste management directly affect public health, livelihoods, and future generations.
The rising impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) — including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer — will be addressed through conversations on prevention, early detection, and public awareness. Health officials are expected to highlight the need for long-term strategies that promote healthier lifestyles.
Food security is another priority. With ongoing discussions about reducing reliance on imports, the forum will examine ways to strengthen local agriculture and traditional food systems while improving nutrition and economic resilience.
As Palau’s population continues to age, participants will also look at elder care and support services. Discussions are expected to focus on healthcare access, social engagement, and policies that uphold the dignity and wellbeing of senior citizens.
Gender-based violence will be addressed through dialogue on prevention, protection measures, and survivor-centered services. Community education and coordinated response systems are anticipated to be key areas of discussion.
The forum will conclude with a focus on governance — emphasizing transparency, accountability, and stronger communication between leaders and the public.
According to organizers, the Cheldebechel Forum aims to reinforce a shared understanding that national progress depends on collaboration at every level of society. By bringing together voices from government, traditional leadership, and civil society, the event seeks to strengthen unity and collective responsibility in addressing the challenges facing Palau.
Outcomes and recommendations from the forum are expected to help guide future initiatives aimed at keeping communities safe, supported, and connected.
