Rain Doesn’t Slow Action in PML Opening Round

KOROR, Palau — As of February 18, 2026, the 2026 season of the Palau Major League Baseball (PML) is underway, with six teams competing in a highly anticipated start to Palau’s premier baseball league. Despite weather interruptions, players and fans alike are enjoying a competitive opening round that is already showing early surprises in the standings.

League officials report that each round consists of 15 scheduled games. So far, nine games have been completed, while six games were postponed due to rain and are now rescheduled to ensure the round is fully played. This means the Round One is currently approaching the midpoint, with teams battling not just each other but also the elements, as weather conditions have affected play across multiple match days.

Team in Competition

The six teams competing this year’s league are:

• Ngermid
• Airai
• Ngerbeched
• Angaur Mekaebers
• South
• Spiders

Each team has approached the start of the season with its own strategies and lineups, hoping to make an early statement in the league. While some teams have recorded strong early results, others are still searching for their first wins.

Early Standings

League officials report standings in a win-loss format, with losses first. As of February 29, the records for each team are:

• Ngerbeched: 4-0
• Airai Aces: 3-1
• Angaur Mekaebers: 2-2
• South: 0-2
• Spiders: 0-4

Ngerbeched has emerged as one of the early front-runners with four wins and no losses, demonstrating strong offensive and defensive play. Ngermid has also managed to remain undefeated with one win, while Airai sits positively at 3-1 after its opening games. Angaur Mekaebers hold an even record of 2-2, leaving them in the middle of the pack but still very much in contention as Round One progresses.

South and Spiders, meanwhile, have yet to record a win, standing at 0-2 and 0-4 respectively in the loss-win format, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the league in its opening phase. With six games postponed by rain, the standings remain fluid and could shift significantly once these games are played and results are recorded.

Rosters and League Rules

According to PML ground rules, official team rosters will be finalized at the conclusion of Round One. Teams currently retain add-and-drop options, allowing them to adjust their lineups in response to early performance and strategy. Once the first round is complete, rosters will become official, locking in players for the remainder of the season and setting the stage for the next rounds of competition.
