A Chinese worker has been told to leave the country before the end of August after using a fake Philippine passport to obtain an entry permit and a job.

“I regret to inform you that Mr. Lim has been found ineligible to remain in the Republic of Palau and such denial is in the best interest of Palau,” Division Immigration of Acting Chief Bolton Tengoll dated August 16 wrote to  Chinese worker William Lim and his employer Vance Polycarp.

Lim was found to have submitted a counterfeit Philippine passport upon due diligence check from the government. Based on this finding the Immigration and the Employment Service has cancelled Lim’s entry and work permit. 

According to documents provided to Island Times, Lim reportedly arrived in Palau as a tourist in December 2023 and applied for and applied for a worker’s permit under HK Lucky Restaurant in January 2024.

Lim obtained a worker’s permit on February 20, 2024, despite the pending result of the background check.

Tengoll stated that Polycarp is responsible for making sure that Lim depart Palau 10 days from the receipt of the letter.  Lim, according to the Immigration has to depart the country by August 26.

The immigration warned that failing to depart within the prescribed date will make Polycarp and Lim liable for any charges and penalties for non-compliance with the deportation order.   (By: Bernadette Carreon)
