February 5, 2020-President Tommy E. Remengesau. Jr. on Wednesday welcomed Commander Sanborn to Palau at his satellite office in Koror. Accompanying commander Sanborn was H.E. Ambassador Amy J. Hyatt and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief of Civil and Public Works, Mr. Michael Wyatt.

In their meeting, President Remengesau and Commander Sanborn discussed many opportunities that the Army Corps of Engineers and Palau can work together to address. Discussions focused on regional infrastructure standing the test of time and with sea-level rise and more frequent extreme weather events such as droughts and typhoons, President Remengesau expressed the need for collaborative work on infrastructural assessments to help Palau’s work in mitigating climate change and strengthening natural resource resiliency.

Lieutenant Col. Sanborn is the first female commander of Honolulu District leading an organization of more than 300 engineers, scientists and support staff serving the Pacific Region, including the Republic of Palau.  This visit was Commander Sanborn’s first time to Palau.
